Our God

works in mysterious ways. For those of you who dont know, Mike was in a pretty bad car accident yesterday morning. On his drive down to the academy, he didnt realize a turn was coming up so quickly, and by the time he braked, and tried to correct his truck, he was over the side of an embankment, and rolled three times. Amazingly, he was able to open his door and get out of the truck. He hiked up to the road and tried to flag someone down (there is no cell phone reception on the highway he was on) a few people passed by without stopping and finally two different cars stopped. In one of the cars was a firefighter, who got Mike in his car, grabbed some of the things Mike had collected from around the truck and booked it to the hospital in Chester. As soon as they were within cell phone range, Mike called me to let me know what was going on. I got Brayden up, ran to our neighbor's and dropped Brayden off and then got to the hospital in record time. I dont even remember driving there. I walked in expecting the worst, and was greeted by Mike laying on a flat board, neck in a brace, and the only injuries I could see was a lot of blood, cuts on his hands, his foot, and a very banged up elbow. Long story short, Mike has a lot of lacerations, some deep road rash on his elbow, and a torn bicep muscle on his left arm. He has to keep his arm in a sling for a couple day and we have to get him in to see a doctor and get it checked up on. He is in a fair amount of pain and just feels banged up everywhere internally. Yesterday his chest was really bothering him, and I am hoping when he wakes up, he'll let me know it's feeling better today. Thankfully the medicine has really been helping. God worked in the most amazing ways through this accident and He gets ALL the glory! First off, Mike was taking the truck yesterday so he could wash it, because we were planning on selling it and being a one car family for awhile. If he had taken the Jeep I am sure he wouldnt be alive right now. Second, I was mistaken in that he went off an actual cliff, when he actually went off a steep embankment. That itself is a miracle, because I can't think of many parts on that highway that arent all cliffs. Third, the firefighter, Ben, was in the right place at the right time, was awesome with Mike, was a trained EMT, so he knew all the right things to do, and he was a HUGE help at the hospital, and with me. We will continue to keep him in our prayers as long as we live. Fourth, Mike did not break anything, or suffer any long term injuries; if he had, he would not be able to continue in the academy and its another complete miracle that he didnt. Fifth, the CHP officer that investigated the accident was supposed to be having coffee with the Police Sergeant of our town yesterday morning, and the Sergeant came to the hospital. The CHP officer was so impressed with Mike, about why he chose Police over CHP, about his service in the Navy, and just how he carried himself, that he personally introduced Mike to the Sergeant and told him what a stand up guy Mike was. The Sergeant asked Mike to come in to the office as soon as he was feeling better to fill out the paperwork to become a reserve recruit and start getting paid even if there wasn't a full-time job open. Talk about another huge praise report! (We'll let you know what happens once Mike gets going on that). Sixth, we had GAP insurance on our truck (thank you Mike making a wise decision!) which will cover the difference between what we owe and what our truck is worth. The list just goes on and on. God was amazingly graceful in this situation and provided for us every single step. I just can't believe Mike is alive after being told numerous times by Ben and the CHP officer that he really shouldnt be. And I really cant believe he got out so unscathed. Here are a few pictures.
