My Sweet Hubby

So Mike and I were sitting at home talking last night about love, and what it is and what it isnt, and the way the world loves, the way that so many people in marriages love each other isn't at all what God created it to be. Mike was talking about how love sacrifices and gives, without even thinking of how much it's sacrificing, or how much it's giving, just being completely selfless, and he said one of the sweetest things ever, that I just cant stop thinking about, he said,

"Love is like having the Raiders (Mike's favorite football team) get to the Superbowl, and having one of my best friends have tickets to the game and invite me to go, but the day comes for us to go, and I find out you have to walk home by yourself, and I choose not to go so I can walk you home, not because you need me too, or expect me too, but because I want to, and because I want to be with you and I dont want you to have to walk alone."

I just thought that was so sweet because of how much he meant beyond what he could say. Knowing he wouldnt ever do that so he could hold it in my face that I gave it up for you, but being completely selfless, and in love with me so much that there is really nothing he would rather do than be there for me. To me, thats an awesome portrayal of what true love is... and yes, he made me cry!!

Brutus The Great Update!

Ok, here is a much awaited update on our little trooper Brutus!!! Sorry I havent gotten on here sooner to update you all on him, but its been a busy week!! Bruttie had surgery on Thursday, which went beautifully, thanks to Dr. Garrolini our surgeon at the Los Posas vet, it took awhile longer than expected, 4.5 hours!!! But they felt confident in the work they did to repair his leg! Brutus has a rather big metal plate in his leg, with 7 screws and a rod, quite the little machine! The doctor told us he spent more time cutting away the bad bone growth than repairing the bone! Yikes! I am glad we were able to get him in soon enough! Mike and I were able to see him on Friday morning, and he was very very groggy and unsteady on his feet. Then, we picked him up yesterday around 4 to bring him home. We've got quite the task ahead of us to get our little man rehabilitated! He's on about 3 months of modified bed rest, with gentle leash walking around the house and backyard to use the restroom, which is so sad to watch him try and do. He cannot bear almost any weight at all on his leg, and its hyperextended because they have to stretch the tendons and ligaments over the repaired bone, so he isnt able to bend or stretch his leg, and I am doing passive range of motion to get things stretched, a little at a time. We are also doing massaging around his ankle because of the edema (swelling) that is happening because of circulation! *deep breath!* His whole leg is pretty swollen, and he is in some pain. We are also giving him 3 types of pain meds, icing the incision site twice a day, and heating the ankle twice a day too. Lots of work and TLC is going into our little man, but our favorite part of the care taking is cuddling on the couch with him which we are doing as I type this. Daddy and boy are cuddling watching their Sunday NFL while I have some frozen peas on his little leg. We have a follow up appointment in two weeks for some more x-rays and an overall check of how he is healing up! Keep us in prayer! Thanks again for all your prayers and well wishes!!!

Our 4 Pack

Well, we are at it again, but please dont think we are crazy!!! We are currently FOSTERING a dog for the next month or so. Yup, that moves our pack number up to 4. I meant to send this email out sooner, but it has been quite busy in the Kincaid household and a long story to tell. I will try to give you all the short version. There was a boxer dog/puppy up for adoption at the local animal shelter with a hurt leg. He was not going to be adopted out and the local boxer rescue group was unable to pick him up because of his injury. They do not have funds to care for a hurt dog. My husband, with the heart of gold that he has, decided that we needed to take the dog and give it at least a temporary home, since he was going to be euthanized this week. We brought Brutus home on Friday, and I cant begin to tell you what a love of a dog he is. The other dogs have taken to him like he has always been one of the pack and its great to see them playing together. We knew upon adopting Brutus last Friday his leg was broken, but were told by the animal shelter vet it was an older injury, and he could live a normal life without surgery, since the muscles had already started to atrophy and almost form a cast around the break site. He is not in pain, but his right hind leg is immobile and he uses it almost like a cane or crutch while he walks. We took him into our vet this week to get his rabies shot and get his injury looked at, and thats where the situation gets interesting. Turns out, Brutus' break is not as old as we originally were told, and is in need of surgery, a pretty doggone (yes, pun intended) expensive surgery if I do say so myself. Mike and I came home and talked about it, and decided we felt the tug on our hearts to go ahead and move ahead with the procedure, after probably a hundred phone calls, and an exhausting few days, Brutus will go under the knife tomorrow. Its all of a sudden, and I was hoping to let you all know about him well before that was scheduled to happen, but our vet/surgeon let us know tonight how important it is to get the surgery done quickly and soon, to avoid further injury and higher costs. We have already worked out the first payment, which is around 3/4 of the payment, and we have already received a guaranteed $250 in donations from various organizations with at least $150 in donations that have been "promised." Brutus will go in tomorrow morning, and will be staying two nights at the vet, he is going to have to have dead/weakened/ and other wise hurt muscle cut away and repaired, as well as growth of the break site cut away, and then we believe they are going to put the bone together with pins and plates!!!! Yikes! That's a lot of work for a dog who is only 1.5 years old! He will be under pretty strict orders for the next 4 weeks but is expected to recover beautifully! We are eager to see him finally using all four of his legs!

And who will be taking him after all this is said and done? Mike's parents have stepped forward and offered to house him for us, at least for the duration of the time we are living at Point Mugu, then he will be able to come home with us!

I know you all might think we are psycho, and maybe we are, but hopefully you can see the heart of the matter, and we can definietely see the thankfulness in our Brutus boy's eyes when he's in our laps on the couch!

We love you guys and cant wait to hear how crazy you think we all are for attempting this new adventure!

Mud Bath Anyone?

Mike and I went and ran some errands this evening....

And just when we thought we had dog proofed our backyard! Just goes to show you there is never a dull moment in the Kincaid household!

Somehow the dogs were able to turn on the spicket on the side of the house. We came home to a nice pool of mud and...

A very muddy puppy (the other two just had it on their paws!) She sure thought she was going to be in trouble! Being typical doggie parents, we couldnt stop laughing to even think of punishing her. She just looked so darn cute!

She also managed to escape from the bath tub long enough to get mud all over the newly cleaned bathroom and carpet. Little booger!

Oh well, what can you say when they have a face like this?

A Happy Belated Anniversary To Us!

Mike and I's anniversary was this past Sunday, it has been one year since we celebrated our marriage with our family and friends at our big wedding at Calvary Chapel camarillo! We were up at Mike's folks this year, so we didnt go away for a trip or anything, but we did go to a restaraunt that I had hoped would be good....I guess it just wasnt in the cards that night! We got all dressed up and ready to go, and I had selected a restaraunt called the Lake Almanor Inn, thinking it would be on the lake. After finding out it wasnt, and that it was by a creek that couldnt be seen from the restaraunt we went ahead and ordered our food. I will spare you all the details, but to say that it was sub-par is quite the understatement, it was HORRIBLE! I was quite emotional about it, but we were able to go back to Mike's family's house for some quality time on our last night up there, and then sneak out around midnight to drive to the lake and park and look up at the stars and cuddle for awhile! It was so wonderful to have that quiet alone time just soaking up the stars that God created that we cant see from the city! Pictures will have to come soon, since I am updating this from work and dont have them on my computer here. But thank you all for thinking of us on our special day!

Our First Post!

Hi everyone,

I am writing you from good ol' Westwood, California where we are visiting Mike's family for the long weekend and celebrating our one year anniversary! I am really excited to start working on this blog, we have so many exciting things that God is doing in our lives and we can't wait to share them all with you! We'll hopefully be able to update this pretty frequently and keep in touch with everyone better! I wont have much time to get this started this weekend, but more will come soon!
